If you are searching for an all purpose notebook, the Gateway UC7807u is a good option. It performs really well, has lots of useful features and can be bought for less than $800.
This probably isn’t the best laptop available but it is more than enough to meet your basic needs. The UC7807u comes with both HDMI and VGA video outputs. There are three USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard slot, a flash-card reader, ethernet, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n), and Bluetooth. There is a slot-fed DVD burner and a 5400-rpm, 320 GB hard disk drive.
On the flip side, the battery life is average – you can’t be off the grid for more than 3.5 hours. And at 5.3 pounds, this isn’t the lightest machine out there.
